Jayhawks land in Chattanooga

The Jayhawks, a major influence among alternative country/rock musicians since emerging from the Minneapolis music scene in 1985, will play Saturday at Coolidge Park as part of closing events for the RiverRocks festival.

The group is touring in support of its album “Mockingbird Time.” Members announced a national tour after a successful European tour. This is their first stop in Chattanooga.

The show is presented for free courtesy of New Belgium Brewery. The park will be full of exhibitors and vendors during the day to celebrate the green connection to RiverRocks. Artists will display and sell in an area coordinated by the Association for Visual Arts. Food and beverages will be available, and entertainment will be on the main stage beginning at 11 a.m.

The Jayhawks will take the stage at 8 p.m. The band’s current lineup, on the album and performing at RiverRocks, brings back the same “Tomorrow the Green Grass”-era group of Mark Olson, Gary Louris, Marc Perlman, Karen Grotberg and Tim O’Reagan. It is considered by many to be the “classic” Jayhawks lineup.
