Rhea County man denies shooting man through bedroom window

DAYTON, Tenn. – A Rhea County man testified today that he did not shoot a man killed in the bedroom of his ex-wife’s apartment.

Len Rogers, charged with premeditated first-degree murder, felony first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder in the 2007 shooting death of Gregory Keith Brown in 2007, offered little explanation for the evidence presented against him in court this morning.

Brown, of Ringgold, Ga., was killed by a shot through the bedroom window in the apartment of Vanessa Hawkins, Rogers’ ex-wife.

The Rogers were getting a divorce, records show, and he had been arrested twice for violating an order of protection before the shooting.

Defense attorneys argued that a series of phone calls from Rogers to his brother and another friend gave him an alibi for the night of the shooting.

Prosecutors argued the evidence against Rogers proves the calls were made only to establish an alibi.

Testimony continues this afternoon.
