Two days after Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow and predicted an early spring, area residents will wake up today to a wintry mix of precipitation that is expected to turn into rain by noon.
Late Thursday some parts of the Chattanooga area had a dusting of snow, but that snow was not expected to last very long.
“I wouldn’t expect any snow to accumulate, just a wintry mix,” said Terry Getz, meteorologist for the National Weather Service. “Then rain.”
And while the tri-state region dodged this week’s historic snowfall that blanketed the Midwest and Northeast under 2 feet of snow, those living in higher elevations in North Georgia and parts of Tennessee could see snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches, forecasters said.
WRCB-TV Channel 3 meteorologists forecast today’s low at 32, with a midday temperature of 35 and an afternoon high of 39.
