Chattanoogans and local doctors will have an opportunity to learn about what’s new in prostate cancer diagnostics and treatment from world-renowned physicians at the Driving Out Prostate Cancer event Sept. 22.
The event, which will be presented by the Chattanooga Regional Oncology Association, will feature presentations by four specialized physicians at BMW of Chattanooga from 6:30-10 p.m.
“With this event we are trying to hit all aspects of prostate cancer, from screening and protection to what happens when you have the disease and are looking for treatment options,” said former Chattanooga Regional Oncology Association president Dr. Joe Busch.
The event is free to the public and hors d’oeuvres will be served. Free prostate-specific antigen tests will also be available during the event, said Busch.
According to Kathy Wiley, Chattanooga Regional Oncology Association secretary, the goal of the event is to help educate the public, who may or may not know that one out of every six men is diagnosed with prostate cancer each year.
“We want to bring the community together and make people aware you don’t have to be here alone with prostate cancer,” she said.
Busch said the event will address new imaging technologies, treatment opportunities and opportunities available for patients who are already experiencing advanced stages of prostate cancer in a simple format that is conducive to asking questions.
