No practicing on patients: New docs get boot camp

CHICAGO (AP) – New doctors at a hospital in Chicago can’t practice on patients.

The interns must first pass a boot camp with fake patients, fake wound stitching and fake emergencies.

Other medical schools and hospitals run similar programs but the one at Northwestern Memorial and its adjoining medical school is known for its rigors.

The aim is to eliminate first-day jitters, boost preparation and ensure patient safety.

Many learned similar skills in medical school, but their new doctors’ degrees come with a new level of responsibility.
