A 26-year-old woman was pronounced dead, one man was arrested and four individuals were administered Narcan after multiple Grundy County Sheriff’s Office overdose investigations Thursday night, according to a news release.

Officials were notified at 6 p.m. that the unresponsive 26-year-old had been brought by private vehicle to Emerald Hodgson Hospital in Sewanee, where she was soon pronounced dead.

The Sheriff’s Office determined that the victim had overdosed in Monteagle.

According to the release, within five hours of the first call, two more overdoses were reported. Narcan, which treats narcotic overdoses, was administered to both individuals, one of which was airlifted to an area hospital.

Investigators also identified two other potential users and administered Narcan for precautionary measures, the release states.

Charles Hollen, 64, was arrested and charged with possession of Schedule II, Schedule IV and Schedule V drugs and was transported to the Marion County Jail.

The release states that Hollen has not currently been charged in relation to the death of the 26-year-old.

“Losing another person to an overdose is heartbreaking,” the release states. “Had it not been for the quick actions of law enforcement personnel from both agencies, last night would have been much more deadly. Both the Sheriff’s Office and Monteagle Police Department are working with the District Attorney’s Office to ensure those involved are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

The victim’s body was transported to the medical examiner’s office in Nashville for an autopsy. Her name is being withheld pending proper notification, according to the statement.

This is an ongoing investigation.
