Good morning, Chattanooga!
Most days you can find 68-year-old retiree Elaine Kistler at her dining room table, clipping out articles, cartoons and photos from the Chattanooga Times Free Press to mail to family and friends.
It was a pastime of her grandfather that she picked up in the 1960s.
“I get positive replies from everybody,” she said. “Whenever I threaten to quit, people start calling me and saying, ‘You can’t quit!”‘
Here read about her hobby, her veteran grandfather and what options she’ll have when the Times Free Press goes mostly digital. (The column also features a suggestion for furry friends who like to fetch the paper.)
Now for some recent stories:
WALKER WATER: Walker County is planning to use $5 million of its American Rescue Plan Act funds to help make water and sewer improvements.
HELPING HAND, OR FOOT, I GUESS: Former Bryan College standout Jonathan Ricketts has been “indispensable” for the Chattanooga Red Wolves Soccer Club.
TFP PLAYER OF THE WEEK: The area player of the week is a senior running back who helped the Trion High School football team amass a 48-7 win in half the normal amount of time.
