Man shot during robbery attempt

A man was shot Friday in an attempted robbery of the Big K market at 909 Dodson Ave., according to Chattanooga police.

About 8:25 p.m. an unknown black male entered the store and approached the counter, pointing a long barrel revolver in the clerk’s face and demanding money from the cash register, said Officer Rebecca Royval, a Chattanooga Police Department spokeswoman. The clerk jumped up and ran to the bathroom to hide, and the suspect began to go around the side of the counter when he was startled by Orlando Gomez, Officer Royval said.

The suspect fired one round from the revolver, striking Mr. Gomez in the lower left left, Officer Royval said. The suspect fled from the scene on foot toward Milne Street, she said.

Mr. Gomez was transported to Erlanger hospital, where he was treated and released, Officer Royval said.
