First Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen started referring to Ole Miss as “that school up north.” Then his Bulldogs went out and whipped the Rebels two straight years.
Now, when people enter Mississippi on an interstate, they are greeted by a billboard featuring Mullen and the message “Welcome to our state.” There are 10 or so billboards, with each located within the first mile or two of the state line.
“To me, we are the state university for Mississippi,” Mullen said. “We’re the people’s university.”
