The Chattanooga Lookouts could not produce late heroics for a second consecutive night, falling 3-2 to Mobile before an announced crowd of 4,176 at AT&T Field.
Nick Gordon, whose single to center field Friday night in the 10th inning scored Tanner English to give the Lookouts a 4-3 triumph, struck out on a foul tip in Saturday’s ninth inning with Ryan Walker on third base and Lamonte Wade on second. Gordon was the second out of the inning, and Travis Harrison struck out swinging to end the contest.
The Lookouts are 1-2.
Wade Wass homered to right-center in the second inning to give Mobile a 1-0 lead, and the BayBears extended their advantage to 3-0 in the fourth on Bo Way’s single to right that scored Hutton Moyer and Wass.
The Lookouts still faced a 3-0 deficit in the eighth, when they loaded the bases with nobody out. Harrison hit into a 5-4-3 double play, which enabled English to score, and a Dan Gamache single to center scored Gordon to make it 3-2.
Game four of a five-game series against Mobile at AT&T Field is scheduled this afternoon at 2:15.
