For members of the Chattanooga Model Boat Club, an open house equates to open water for their radio-controlled craft Saturday, June 4, at Camping World in East Ridge.

The gate to the pond opens at 10 a.m., and there will be continuous sailing and power boating until 4 p.m. with opportunities for hands-on experience.

“Admission is free, and Camping World will be grilling hot dogs, so all you’ll need is a lawn chair to enjoy the day,” says club president Charlie Roberson.

The Chattanooga Model Boat Club began in 1994, with interests ranging over the years from static-display boat-building, to scale power boating, high-speed power racing and stately sail boating. With the advent of ready-to-run power and sailboats, much of the club activity has migrated in that direction, Roberson notes in a news release. Still, traditional craftsmanship will be on display Saturday, he says.

Camping World is the former Shipp’s RV location at 6728 Ringgold Road, just off I-75 at Exit 1.
