Knoxville issues 1st permit for dog in restaurant

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The city of Knoxville has issued its first permit allowing a pet dog in a restaurant’s outdoor seating area.

The French Market on Gay Street received the initial permit under a new ordinance approved by the Knoxville City Council in December.

Under legislation passed last year, the state’s larger cities, including Knoxville, can allow restaurants to let pet dogs in their outdoor dining areas if a permitting process is approved.

To date the French Market has been the only applicant in Knoxville.
