Carville is Jackson Day speaker
National political strategist James Carville will headline Tennessee Democrats’ Jackson Day fundraiser on May 7 at Nashville’s Music City Center.
State Democrats, now in the minority in state politics, tout the nationally known best-selling author and frequent cable news presence for his knack of “re-making political underdogs into upset winners,” and cite former President Bill Clinton’s 1992 upset victory as case in point.
In a news release, state Democratic Party Chairwoman Mary Mancini said Carville “brings humor and personality along with his great political insight.” She added, “Our state Democrats will enjoy his one-of-a-kind style as he rallies our supporters and helps us prepare for big Democratic victories in 2016.”
Tickets are $150 per person and table sponsorships are $1,200.

A former deputy sheriff in northeast Georgia has been arrested on sexual assault charges from an incident involving a woman in custody.
Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Nelly Miles said William Stephenson Mitchell, 42, is charged with sexual assault after he took a woman in custody to the Bartow County Jail on March 12. Mitchell had worked as a Barrow County deputy for eight years.
