Fans of Jordan Smith, the Lee University student who won Season 9 of “The Voice” on NBC earlier this month, will have a couple of chances to catch him on TV this weekend. Smith is singing the national anthem at two televised sporting events.
Smith will open the NHL Winter Classic in Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., on Friday, where the Boston Bruins will take on the Montreal Canadiens at 1 p.m. The hockey game will be televised on NBC.
The Harlan, Ky., native returns to his home state Saturday to sing the national anthem at the Kentucky Wildcats vs. Ole Miss Rebels basketball game in Rupp Arena. Tip-off is 7 p.m. The game will be carried by SEC Network and ESPN 3.
“I have always been a huge Cats fan, so singing at this game is another dream come true,” Smith posted on his Facebook page.
And he’s already been offered a second gig Saturday if he’s interested.
“Hey Jordan, just heard you are singing at the UK game Saturday,” commented Theresa Hall West to Smith’s Facebook post. “My daughter is getting married 2 minutes away from Rupp. You should stop by and sing at the reception. Wedding at 5 and reception until 10:30. See you there!”
