Mark your calendars for two events this week at the McMinn County Living Heritage Museum, 522 W. Madison Ave., in Athens, Tenn.
Holiday House, an annual major fundraiser for the museum organized by its Museum Guild, will be held Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the museum.
Ashley Rush, museum coordinator of visitor services, said there will be a silent auction of handmade crafts as well as gift items donated by the community. Guests also will enjoy a buffet dinner.
“But the highlight of the evening is the bake sale of items made by guild members. Its recipes are closesly guarded,” she said.
“The bake sale is so popular that people line up early just to get in as soon as the doors open at 6:30,” said Rush.
Ticket for Holiday House are $15 and may be bought in advance at the museum or at the door.
While at the benefit, guests may want to take in the new seasonal exhibit that opens Monday, “Holiday Traditions.”
Lisa Chastain, museum curator, said it will feature a variety of handcarved wooden Santas on loan to the museum.
