An easier non-conference schedule in 2010 might have gotten the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football team into the playoffs. But don’t expect the Mocs to load up on cupcakes in the future.
Athletic director Rick Hart said he has talked with coach Russ Huesman and they both agree that the Mocs should follow the same philosophical approach to scheduling in the years to come as they did in 2010 and ’11.
“Based on what we’ve talked about, you’ll probably see the same look and feel that you’ve seen this year,” Hart said.
In 2010, the Mocs played non-conference games against Jacksonville State, Eastern Kentucky and eventual Bowl Championship Series national champion Auburn. In the fall, the Mocs will open the 2011 season at Nebraska, followed by games against JSU and EKU.
According to the NCAA’s Web site, UTC played the sixth toughest schedule in the Football Championship Subdivision in 2010. The Mocs finished 6-5, likely coming up a win short of receiving an at-large bit into the playoffs.
