Mike Gonzalez led the Chattanooga Lookouts to a 4-1 Southern League baseball victory Saturday night in the series opener in Jackson, Tenn.
Consecutive doubles by Gonzales and Carlos Paulino in the second inning broke a 1-1 tie and put Chattanooga ahead to stay. The Lookouts (31-23) maintained a 2-1 lead over the Generals until the ninth inning, when a Gonzales two-run home run to right field capped the scoring.
David Hurlbut picked up his first pitching win with Chattanooga, allowing five hits and one run in seven innings.
Game two of the five-game series is tonight at 7:05 EDT. Alex Wimmers (2-1, 6.49 ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Lookouts, with Scott DeCecco (1-3, 5.48) scheduled for the Generals.
