The American Red Cross is looking for volunteers who can spend two weeks in a hurricane zone to help with disaster relief.

Training on the fundamentals of deployment, shelter and disaster assessment will be held Monday through Friday next week at the Red Cross office on Access Road.

A news release said the organization has launched a “massive” sheltering operation, with more than 27,000 people seeking refuge from Hurricane Matthew in almost 200 Red Cross and community evacuation shelters across Florida, Georgia and South Carolina as of Thursday night.

The release said more than 1,800 Red Cross disaster workers are on the ground or traveling to the Southeast to help with shelter, relief and recovery.

People who would like to volunteer must be able to commit to a two-week deployment and must complete an application process.
