County accepts subdivision’s roadsThe Catoosa County Commission formally accepted the roads from Phase III of The Meadows subdivision as county roads during the group’s most recent meeting. Initially, the county assumed the roads — some of which are now in need of repair — belonged to Meadows Investments III LLC, the development company that built the subdivision. However, after extensive discussions with Meadows’ lawyers, the county determined that the developer met its obligations concerning the roads during construction. The county has still not accepted responsibility for the subdivision’s stormwater system. County attorneys at the meeting said negotiations are ongoing.
Less than a month before the original deadline for construction to begin, the County Commission recently approved an intergovernmental agreement with the city of Ringgold to begin work on an improvement project for Chapman Road.
The Georgia Department of Transportation had approved $350,000 for the project – the total cost for which is estimated at $650,000 – with the caveat that construction begin by June 30, 2016, or the money would be rescinded, according to Ringgold City Manager Dan Wright.
Following the June 7 county commission meeting during which commissioners unanimously approved the intergovernmental agreement, Wright reported that start date was recently changed by GDOT to Dec. 31.
