Current costs
The city of Collegedale provides a library card at no charge to Collegedale residents, and for a fee to nonresidents. Those charges are:$60 per year for individuals$85 per year per family$50 per year for seniors (age 60+)$65 per year for senior family (age 60+)
The Collegedale Public Library is looking to lower the fee nonresidents must pay to obtain a library card.
Since the local library ended its funding arrangement with Hamilton County in 2011 and became an independent library, those living outside the city of Collegedale have had to pay $60 per year for a card, with costs varying based on age and family. Residents pay through their property taxes, which increased in order to help fund the library.
With multiple requests from visitors for the removal or reduction of that fee, Library Director Joanne Stanfield thinks it might be time for a change.
“We certainly want to serve our community, and… a lot of folks [are] just over the line from Collegedale city,” Stanfield said. “So [we’re] looking for ways to make it a little easier.”
