Alpha Delta Pi Sorority’s Beta Beta Chapter at UTC is hosting its fifth annual Run for Ronald 5k and 1-mile family fun run and walk at UTC’s Lansing Court Saturday, April 9, with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m.
The philanthropic cause for Alpha Delta Pi chapters nationwide is Ronald McDonald House Charities, which houses families while their children receive medical help from hospitals far from home.
“We decided to do a 5k because it not only allows the students to participate, but also the entire Chattanooga community,” said sorority member MaKenzie Gray. “Every year it continues to grow and we are able to raise more money for the Ronald McDonald House.”
She said RMHC is especially important to the Beta Beta Chapter at UTC, as members regularly volunteer to cook and clean for families staying at the Chattanooga Ronald McDonald House, located less than a half-mile from the sorority house.
Through last year’s race, she said, the Beta Beta Chapter raised $12,560 to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Greater Chattanooga. A small portion of the funds raised goes to the Alpha Delta Pi Foundation, which supports the philanthropic activities the national organization holds to raise money for in other ways for Ronald McDonald House Charities, said Gray.
“It also is a great event that brings the community together, and a fun event to participate in,” she said.
The registration fee is $30, or $20 for UTC students.
