Let’s ‘taco’ ’bout tacos

Earlier this year, BBC’s Good Food published a story predicting the biggest fad foods of 2017. Topping the list? Tacos.

I can attest – both as a food writer and a person that lives on this planet – that taco culture prevails. The phrase “Taco Tuesday” has become ubiquitous, and so have boutique tacos featuring ingredients such as pancetta, pork belly or buttermilk fried chicken. In fact, even Taco Bell reported an 8-percent sales increase during its first quarter.

What’s more, just last week one of my co-workers attended a birthday party with the theme “24 tacos in 24 hours.” The object of the celebration, as you may have guessed, was to eat 24 tacos in 24 hours. Apparently, the birthday gal managed to get 17 of those tacos down before throwing in her napkin.

You heard it hear first, ladies and gentleman: Taco-bingeing is the new pin the tail on the donkey.

Thanks, 2017!
