Just in time for back-to-school, the Performance Learning Center in Fort Oglethorpe got a facelift thanks to 40 Shaw Industries volunteers.
Justin Williams, a department manager with Shaw, said the manufacturer partners with United Way to help with community projects for a week each summer.
“Several programs of Communities in Schools are funded by United Way,” said CIS Executive Director Suzanne Chovanec. “Through that partnership we had the opportunity to submit projects we would like to have done. I submitted a request for painting two classrooms and yard beautification. We were selected by three plants. They came together and wanted to help us at the PLC.”
In addition to cleaning, painting and reflooring six main classrooms, volunteers also worked on the outdoor courtyard and installed 10 new wooden picnic tables.
“It looks beautiful to me,” Principal Sharon Vaughn said, adding, “The students did not have a usable outdoor space until now.”
