The Chattanooga Fire Department was called to the Hamilton County Jail this evening about 6:20 after jail personnel observed smoke in the laundry room, according to a Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office official.
Because of the possibility of fire, supervisors immediately suspended the normal working procedure of the jail, along with canceling transports or intake of arrestees by other agencies. This procedure is activated for the safety of inmates and jail personnel.
The incident was contained to a single dryer located in the laundry room with no injuries or smoke exposure to either jail personnel or inmates.
