Good morning, Chattanooga!
During the pandemic on Instagram, many of my friends from all different stages and walks of life seemed to have one thing in common – they were buying up house plants.
I’ve mentioned previously how I have my own little trooper, the only plant I’ve never been able to kill, that has stuck with me for the past few years. And a few weeks ago I found myself at a cute open-air plant shop in Chattanooga, hunting for a birthday gift for a friend.
According to area plant businesses, household plants are currently all the rage.
“Because of the pandemic, everyone was home and they wanted to decorate and they wanted to care for something that’s not an animal or a long-term commitment,” said Mina Pournaderi, who opened the Secret Garden in July in a historic house on Willow Street.
Here, read about the new shops that have opened in the Chattanooga area and about the “highly addictive” “slippery slope” that is being a plant parent.
