SEATTLE – About 100 Seattle firefighters descended on the Interbay neighborhood early Sunday to put out a large fire aboard a fishing vessel called the “Arctic Dawn,” which has appeared in episodes of the “Deadliest Catch” reality TV show.
Firefighters were dispatched at about 2 a.m. to the Ship Canal in the 1300 block of West Nickerson Street, where they found heavy flames and smoke pouring from the 100-foot vessel, said Dana Vander Houwen of the Seattle Fire Department.
One person aboard the vessel was able to get off safely, and no injuries were reported, Vander Houwen said. Firefighters also prevented the three-alarm fire from spreading to other vessels docked in the Ship Canal, including the nearby “Kodiak.”
The fire was put out by 3:30 a.m., and there did not appear to be any oil in the water or other environmental problems.
Most of the damage seemingly was contained to above-deck portions of the vessel, sparing its engine room, Vander Houwen said. Seattle fire investigators are looking into what caused the fire.
