A mom and her 7-year-old daughter have died from injuries sustained in a wrong-way car crash involving an off-duty Chattanooga police officer this morning.
The accident happened just after midnight at 6100 Mountain View Rd. in Ooltewah, according to a news release from the Chattanooga Police Department.
Authorities say a 2015 VW Passat driven by 29-year-old Rachael Mosier and occupied by her daughter was traveling south on the wrong side of the road for an unknown reason. A 2004 Chevy pickup truck driven by 32-year-old Rodney Proffitt was traveling north bound in the correct lane when the vehicles collided, the release stated.
Proffit is an officer with the Chattanooga Police Department. He was off-duty in his personal vehicle at the time of the wreck, according to the release.
Proffitt sustained injuries, but is expected to recover.
Police say an investigation is ongoing.
