Morristown West running back DeAndre Delaney committed to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football program Wednesday evening, he announced on his Twitter account.
“I thank God, my family, my team and all those who have supported me and helped me get to where I am today and for motivating me to believe in myself,” he wrote. “After multiple visits and weighing my options while deciding which college is the best fit for me both personally and best at helping me achieve my future goals, I have decided to announce my official commitment to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga! Go Mocs!”
The 6-foot-2, 200-pounder chose the Mocs over Wake Forest. Army, Austin Peay, Navy and Southern Illinois had also offered, while there was interest from both Tennessee and Vanderbilt. The Demon Deacons liked him as a safety, but he wanted to play running back, where he will compete for playing time at UTC.
In seven games this season, Delaney has 976 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns, helping the Trojans (6-1) move to No. 2 in the Class 5A state poll. He had over 1,200 yards and 18 total touchdowns during the 2014 season.
He is the Mocs’ fifth commitment and second player from Morristown to commit to the program this week, joining offensive lineman Jordan Seal of Morristown East.
