Donations help VFW post bounce back after burglary

ACWORTH, Ga. – A one-day fund-raiser has helped a Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Acworth bounce back after thieves stole nearly $11,000 from that post earlier this month.

Organizers of a recent fund-raiser say they’ve gotten nearly $13,000 in donations and the amount is continuing to climb.

The junior vice president of the Woman’s Auxiliary at the Acworth post, Dawn Williams, says she was awed by the generosity.

Authorities say the money stolen from the VFW Post north of Acworth had been collected to buy gift packages for troops serving overseas. All told, organizers say they now expect to have $18,000 in donated money in hand to continue their work for the soldiers.
