Body found near dam

Chattanooga police are investigating a body found at the Chickamauga Dam on Friday.

About 10 a.m. Friday investigators were notified of the body of a white male that was found at the water’s edge just down from the swimming area, according to police spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary.

The identity and manner of death are unknown, Weary said. A vehicle, believed to be owned by the deceased man, was located by TVA police a few days ago, Weary said. The body was discovered while the officers trying to locate the owner of that vehicle, Weary said.

7 stores cited in beer sting

Seven Chattanooga convenience stores sold beer to minors during a compliance check Thursday by the Chattanooga police and Hamilton County Anti-Drug Coalition, according to a news release.

Police spokeswoman Jerri Weary said an underage buyer went into 29 local convenience stores to try to buy beer. Clerks in 22 stores checked the buyer’s ID and refused the sale. The buyer was able to purchase beer in seven stores.

Representatives of those stores will appear in front of the Chattanooga Beer Board on the violation, Weary said. They are:

* Eagles Food Mart, 5902 Shallowford Road

* Gene’s, 4901 Bonny Oaks Drive

* Kanku’s Express, 4408 Highway 58

* Okie Dokie Mart, 1900 Roanoke Ave.

* Sandy’s Mini Market, 2400 Glass St.

* Sunrise Market, 5924 Brainerd Road

* Tobacco King, 4736 Highway 58

Inmate charged with false report

An inmate in the Hamilton County Jail has been charged with filing a false report of rape.

Charles Douglas Mundy filed the complaint on Nov. 15, alleging that he had been raped in the jail, said Janice Atkinson, spokeswoman for the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. An investigation determined that Mundy made up the complaint, she said.

Mundy apparently was not happy with his cell assignment and wanted to be moved, she said.
