Rec department tossing around ideas for upgrades

Town of Signal Mountain residents and officials will bat around ideas about needs and improvements to recreational offerings and facilities at a public meeting Thursday, May 20 at 6:30 p.m.

“We want the citizens’ input along with the board’s, to get an area we want to go … so we’re not just throwing money around,” said Parks and Recreation director Jarred Thompson.

A first meeting in May conflicted with many youth sports events, according to Thompson, and was not well attended. He said he hopes to get more feedback this time around.

At the previous meeting, Thompson and Parks and Recreation board chairman Don Close informed attendees of the current status of the town’s 11 recreation facilities, walked them through desired upgrades in a prioritized fashion, brainstormed new recreational opportunities and listened to comments and concerns.

“What we as a board want to do is to be in line with all the citizens,” Thompson said. “Does everyone agree with (our recommendations and priorities)? Did we miss something? Do you want one thing put above another?”
