Regions Bank clarifies donation route for Sgt. Joey Jones

HOW TO HELPContact the Regions Bank Dalton, Ga.-branch at 706-278-2600. The benefit account is under the name “Johnny Joseph Jones.”

Confusion over the name on a bank account for wounded Marine Sgt. Joey Jones has prevented some donations from being deposited, Jones said.

Family members set up an account for the Dawnville, Ga., native at the Regions Bank branch in Dalton, Ga., shortly after he was injured in a bomb blast in Afghanistan.

“We’ve had a lot of problems with people trying to donate money and can’t because the old account isn’t in my name,” Jones said.

Jones uses the first name Joey but the fund is under his legal name — Johnny Joseph Jones.

Regions Bank spokeswoman Evelyn Mitchell confirmed Thursday that the correct name for the account is Johnny Joseph Jones.

Jones lost both legs above the knee when he stepped on an improvised explosive device on Aug. 6.

His parents are building an addition on their home that Joey can use and has bought a specially equipped pickup truck for the 24-year-old Marine.

A series of fundraisers and attention from local and national media have helped Jones and his family reach halfway to their goal.

Jones has undergone dozens of surgeries at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., and is assigned to the Walter Reed Army Medical Center for further rehabilitation.

The sergeant has been home in Dawnville on leave but will return to Walter Reed after the New Year holiday.
