The Hamilton County Democratic Party chairman wants Hamilton County Clerk Bill Knowles to return campaign donations he received when he ran for re-election as a Democrat.
Knowles on Monday announced he was switching parties.
“Leaving the party less than two weeks after he was sworn in leaves no doubt that he made this decision long before Election Day,” Democratic Chairman Jeff Brown said. “He should at the very least return the hard-earned dollars donated to his campaign by loyal Democrats who were led to believe they were supporting one of their own.”
Knowles said he doesn’t intend to return the money.
“People donated to me to be elected county clerk,” he said.
