The inaugural Flavor Run 5k Chattanooga is set for Saturday, March 26 from 10-11 a.m. at Camp Jordan Park. The registration deadline for the race is Friday, March 25. As of last Thursday, 55 percent of the available slots had been sold.
The Flavor Run was founded in 2013 by Chattanooga native John McMahan and travels to various cities across the country. This year, the race will be in 16 different cities, he said.
Participants are encouraged to wear white, which is best for showing the colors of the fruit-flavored powder that will be handed out to participants as well as showered upon them by volunteers, said McMahan.
“This might be one of our largest inaugural events,” he said. “Chattanooga is my hometown, so I couldn’t be more excited.”
In each city the race is held, Flavor Run partners with an organization in the local community. In Chattanooga, he said, Flavor Run will donate a portion of the proceeds from race registration to the Chattanooga Area Food Bank, which will also receive donations of canned food from a drive being held the day of the race.
The race is an untimed fun run open to all ages, with free admission for children younger than 6. The cost for other participants is $34 per person, or $29 per team of three or more participants. Each runner will receive a T-shirt, race bib, tattoo and a banana finisher medal.
After the race, a festival will be held until around noon featuring local vendors, activities for kids and a DJ, said McMahan.
Camp Jordan Park is at 323 Camp Jordan Parkway. For more information or to register, visit flavorrun.com.
