Nadine Woods never stopped praying from the moment she learned that her son had been shot in the head in Afghanistan.
Not after the initial phone call. Not on the nervous trip from a vacation in Michigan to their home in Rising Fawn, Ga. Not on the desperate drive to the military hospital in Maryland. And certainly not during her son’s brain surgery on Thursday.
“As soon as we found out, we started asking people to pray,” Nadine Woods said in a telephone interview from the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., where her son is being treated.
U.S. Army 1st Lt. Bobby Woods is expected to recover, although he may have speech and vision problems, his mother said.
But she believes it’s no coincidence that his healing will take place under a program designed by his father, retired Army Brig. Gen. Robert Woods – the Wounded Warrior Project. The general helped build the program for wounded veterans before his 2009 retirement.
