After last season, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football coaches pinpointed Trevor Wright as a possibility to move from cornerback to dime in the Mocs’ defensive backfield.
They thought Wright’s strong instincts would serve him well in the open field.
A week into preseason practices, the junior hasn’t disappointed.
The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder has made a smooth transition to the position, a safety/linebacker hybrid in the Mocs’ 4-2-5 defensive scheme. Wright, who has 19 starts at cornerback in his two seasons at UTC, has accumulated 83 total tackles, seven pass breakups, an interception and a forced fumble.
“I think it suits his skill set playing in there,” defensive coordinator Adam Braithwaite said. “He’s starting to hone in on the finer points of it, and he seems to have a knack for it.
