Bring your honey-do list with you to the Chattanooga Convention Center this weekend when the Home Builders Association of Greater Chattanooga hosts its fall Home & Remodeling Show.

More than 200 booths geared to remodeling or new builds will offer visitors the latest and greatest in home products, services and building supplies Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 29-30. Cynthia Blackwell, interim executive director of the HBAGC, says although this is a large show, it does not spread out across the entire exhibition hall as did the spring event.

“There will still be beautiful landscaped areas but scaled down in size. A lot of companies build for five straight days before the spring show. This is geared to remodeling and new building; there will be displays for construction needs, landscaping, windows, garage doors, home products and services. I encourage people to attend to get expert advice for any home project. It’s an opportunity to talk to the professionals face to face,” Blackwell says.

One of the most popular displays at the spring home show was Little Digs’ tiny house, and the company is hauling another into the trade center for this show. What’s particularly interesting about this tiny house is that it has been custom-built for a local newlywed couple who plan to live in it after the home show concludes.

Ken Morris, co-owner of Little Digs, says it is a 24-foot by 8.5-foot house, with 312 square feet. It has two 7-foot lofts – one for sleeping, the other a media loft – and the entire roof is a deck accessed from the inside by a sunroof hatch and ladder.

“It’s fully custom. She drew out an idea on paper of what she thought she wanted, and we sent it over to our architect to make it work, and that’s what we built. I think what people will think is the coolest thing about it is the entire roof is a deck. That’s very unusual in a tiny home,” he says.

Morris says the tiny house has a full kitchen (refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, microwave), and full-size bath (with full-size shower) that’s not too different from what you would find as a second bath in a traditional house.

“It has a washer/drier combo in the same unit, which is new to the United States but has been used in Europe for some time,” Morris adds.

Blackwell says there will be balloon artists and costumed characters on hand to entertain the kids both days. Additionally, Looie the Lookout will drop by the show on Sunday to hand out free Lookouts tickets to the first 200 kids through the doors.

As is tradition with the Home Builders’ show, proceeds will be donated to two local nonprofits.
