One-run games have not gone the way of the Chattanooga Lookouts this season, but Blake Smith changed that at least for a night.
Smith’s one-out double into the right-field corner in the 10th inning Saturday scored Brahiam Maldonado for a 5-4 win over Huntsville before a crowd of 5,951 at AT&T Field.
The Lookouts (20-23) improved to just 5-10 in one-run games this season. Saturday’s victory followed Friday night’s 4-3 setback in 11 innings, when Chattanooga walked in the go-ahead run and then loaded the bases with nobody out only to fizzle.
“We’ve pretty much been in nail-biters all year, and for us not to come out on top is always kind of a bummer, but you have to move on,” Lookouts infielder Travis Denker said.
Smith was 4-for-5 with a triple, two doubles and four RBIs. His game-winner followed Maldonado reaching on a fielding error.
