A water main break caused some businesses along Main Street to close early on Wednesday.

Tennessee American Water spokeswoman Daphne Kirksey said some businesses between Market Street and Washington Street were affected. The water was off from about 5 p.m. to around 7 p.m.

Workers were repairing a valve that was leaking when it broke and then caused the main to break, she said. The pipe dated back to the 1930s.
