DID YOU KNOW?The first Little Debbie snack cakes were Oatmeal Creme Pies. Today, the Collegedale-based company produces more than 160 varieties of Little Debbies and 29 varieties of Sunbelt products. Since 1960, more than 150 billion Little Debbie snack cakes have been sold in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and on U.S. military bases worldwide, making it America’s top-selling snack cake.
The world’s largest Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme Pie and a build-a-cookie station are among the draws Sunday as McKee Foods Corp., makers of Little Debbie snacks, hosts a 50th anniversary celebration.
The free community event will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Collegedale Bakery Store, 9515 Apison Pike (take Exit 7A off I-75).
Also among activities is the chance to meet Rhea Lynne Conner, who was named the 2010 Little Debbie Look-Alike Contest winner, as well as Little Debbie characters Oatie and Swissy. Attendees also can climb behind the wheel of a tractor-trailer to see what it is like for the long-haul drivers who deliver the snacks to the continental United States and Canada.
Prizes will be awarded in the games area, and the first 1,000 in attendance will receive a complimentary 50th anniversary recyclable shopping bag. All store purchases will be 20 percent off Sunday.
