With the first phase of the city of LaFayette’s Chattanooga Street water line project nearly complete, the city is preparing for Phase II.
“The Council approved Phase II of the water line project which will replace the water main from West Main Street to Mclemore Street,” said City Manager David Hamilton. “We are still working on moving service lines over to the new water main north of West Main Street, as well as testing. We will also be doing temporary patching to improve the road conditions north of West Main, until we are able to pave the entire road.”
According to Hamilton, the first phase is 95 percent complete.
“We are doing it in-house,” he added. “It’s highly dependent on weather.”
He estimates the next phase should take three to four months to complete and will cost $87,600, not including stone. It will be paid for using Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax dollars, said Hamilton.
