With the right lenses, vision correction surgery can eliminate the need for glasses

Q: My eyeglasses can be such an inconvenience that I’m considering vision correction surgery. What are some of the options?

A: Whether you need lens replacement due to cataracts or simply wish to restore the vision of your youth without glasses, vision correction surgery can help you see clearly again – perhaps more clearly than you can ever remember.

While any type of lens replacement will replace the cloudiness caused by cataracts, all intraocular lenses (IOLs) are not created equally. Choosing the correct type of IOL will greatly impact your visual acuity and quality of life after surgery.

My preference when performing refractive lens replacement surgery is a multifocal IOL, specifically the PanOptix lens. This innovative implant is also available with astigmatic correction, which greatly enhances vision in many patients.

In addition to treating astigmatism, PanOptix lens implants offer extreme clarity of vision, including vivid colors – up close, at arm’s length and far away. In most cases, they eliminate the need for glasses, even readers. In a trial, 99% of participants said they would choose PanOptix lenses again.
