A former Moore County, Tenn., correctional officer has been charged 25 criminal counts related to allegedly having sexual contact with an inmate at the jail in Lynchburg.
Shane Hopkins was working at the Moore County Jail during the period between January and May 2017 when Tennessee Bureau of Investigation officials say the former correctional officer was having sexual contact with a female inmate.
The investigation was launched May 13 at the request of 17th Judicial District Attorney General Rob Carter, according to a statement released by the TBI.
Moore County is about 60 miles west of Chattanooga.
Hopkins, who no longer works for the department, was charged on grand jury indictments with five counts of sexual contact with an inmate and 20 counts of officials misconduct, TBI officials said.
Hopkins, 29, was booked on the charges Friday and held on $50,000 bond.
