A deputy with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department shot a knife-wielding man in a cemetery Thursday morning, authorities said.
A sheriff’s office news release stated that a deputy responded to a suspicious-person call near the Concord Cemetery and church between Manchester and Tullahoma, Tenn., around 9:46 a.m. According to District Attorney Craig Northcott, the suspect allegedly charged at the deputy with a knife. The deputy fired his gun, wounding the suspect.
The suspect, later identified as Robert Travis Rosson, 35, of Manchester, Tenn., was airlifted to Erlanger hospital in Chattanooga for treatment. The deputy was uninjured.
The sheriff’s department hadn’t shared the deputy’s name as of Thursday night, and said Rosson was still being treated at Erlanger. The investigation is ongoing.
