EDITOR’S NOTE: Barry Courter has a 26-year-old son who is a college graduate and a 22-year-old daughter who is a college senior. Each week he poses a question he wishes they would ask.
Q: How does someone narrow their career choices to make it easier to find a job after college?
A: I think one of the important things to understand is that your skills might fit into fields that aren’t even on your radar. Not everyone in medicine cuts people open, for example. Communication skills are needed in things beyond marketing and media. Factories need people who can communicate. Figure out your skills and be open-minded.
