New opponent.

New result.

After losing four of six games against the Biloxi Shuckers and five of six against the Tennessee Smokies to open the second half of their Southern League schedule, the Chattanooga Lookouts had a successful start Wednesday night to a four-game set against Birmingham at AT&T Field with a 6-2 victory before a sold-out crowd of 6,374.

Jaylin Davis and Ryan Walker had home runs for Chattanooga, which improved to just 4-9 this half and to 12-28 for its last 40 games. The Lookouts have an overall record of 40-42.

The Lookouts pounced on the Barons with a four-run first inning, which included the Davis homer to center field, a pair of sacrifice flies and a wild pitch that accounted for the runs. They added two runs in the third inning, which included the Walker homer to right-center.

Chattanooga finished with 13 hits, highlighted by a 5-for-5 performance by shortstop and leadoff hitter Alex Perez.

Lookouts starting pitcher Sean Poppen allowed just one hit through the first four innings, but his shutout bid ended in the fifth on Matt Rose’s two-run homer to right-center. Poppen allowed two runs on three hits in six innings while striking out five.

Tyler Jay and Paco Rodriguez combined on three scoreless innings of relief.

Wednesday’s game had a 26-minute weather delay in the sixth inning. The Lookouts and Barons are scheduled to play again tonight at 7:15.
