Residents still have time to help planning officials further narrow down their ideal vision for the White Oak Mountain area.
The Chattanooga-Hamilton County Regional Planning Agency has extended the deadline for its community choices survey released earlier this month from Aug. 15 to Aug. 28.
The survey follows the second round of public input meetings for the fast-growing area, which drew nearly 100 participants over two weeks before wrapping up Aug. 3.
Like the meetings, the survey will have questions specifically catered to residents in three distinct sub-areas: the Ooltewah/Lee Highway area; the East Brainerd/Apison area; and the Standifer Gap/Ooltewah-Ringgold Road area.
Building on feedback acquired through the April community vision survey, the new series of questions focus more on formulating viable options based on features community members have identified as important to them, said RPA Principal Planner Pam Glaser.
For example, previous survey respondents indicated a desire for additional retail, restaurants and medical facilities, but also cited concerns about the quality and location of new commercial development, Glaser explained. To narrow down a solution, the new survey lists potential options for commercial expansion that will assist planners in reviewing potential locations for commercial centers.
“We’d like to have hundreds of people take the survey and provide us with information on what they would choose for future development in the area,” Glaser said.
