Two new Lookout Valley restaurants … in one

Lookout Valley residents have a new pizza restaurant, Papa Dough’s Pizza and Ice Cream, bringing the taste of New York-style pizza accentuated with unique ingredients. A mid-April addition of a separate but adjoined restaurant, Texas Taco, will also bring the flavors of Mexico served express-style.

Co-owner David Rose said he had the idea of creating two concepts in one, so guests who don’t like pizza can get tacos or enchiladas in the adjacent room and vice versa. Texas Taco will also offer a selection of beer and margaritas.

“We finally realized that even with the economy the way it is, people still come out to eat,” said Rose, who switched from a career in ‘corporate America’ to become a business owner. “We began to look at areas that had a void, a need, like Lookout Valley, where there was no pizza restaurant.”

He opened the family-oriented pizza franchise four weeks ago. Papa Dough’s provides guests a place to not only enjoy their favorite traditional pizzas, but also creative combinations from the restaurant’s diverse ingredients list.

The pizza buffet features traditional favorites like cheese, pepperoni and vegetarian options, but is just as likely to offer unique selections with toppings like french fries, popcorn shrimp, macaroni and cheese and Thai chicken.

Guests who want to create their own combination can order a 12-inch pizza with two toppings for $7.95. For the lunchtime rush, Papa Dough’s offers Pie on the Fly for $5.95, with a to-go box that guests can fill as full as they want (as long as it closes) with whatever they want from the buffet.

The pizza buffet also features salad and pasta. The regular menu features pizzas, subs, muffalettas, sliders and “gargantuan” calzones that come in 12- or 16-inch servings.

“Our dough is made fresh daily,” said Rose, who plans to eventually begin introducing Chicago-style crusts. “We haven’t had the first complaint on any of the pizza. We’ve already established a handful of regulars for lunch.”

Delivery will be available within a 10-mile radius of the restaurant starting in April.

Clumpies Ice Cream is sold at the restaurant, as well as a variety of draft beers.

Rose said he plans to open three additional locations in the tri-state region within the next 18 months.
