Two people die in Walker County, Georgia, collision

Two people died in a head-on collision Friday night in Walker County.

The crash happened at about 5 p.m. on Highway 2 near Dewberry Road. The Walker County Sheriff’s Office called the Georgia State Patrol for assistance.

Austin Cooper, 23, of Rossville, was driving a 2000 Chevy S-10 pickup east on Highway 2. Cooper crossed the median and hit a 2009 Chevy HHR head-on as it was traveling west.

The second car was driven by Theresa King, 51, of Greer, South Carolina, and the passenger was James McGill, 42, of Rossville.

King’s HHR spun counter-clockwise and stopped in the right lane on the westbound side of the highway, while Cooper’s Chevy continued east in the same lane and hit a 2017 Nissan Altima driven by Erika Edwards, 35, of Flintstone.

Edwards was taken to an area hospital.

King and McGill were both pronounced dead at the scene by Walker County Coroner Dewayne Wilson, while Cooper was taken to Erlanger hospital with serious injuries.

A Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team with the Georgia State Patrol responded to the scene and will conduct a follow-up investigation.
