Walden Town Hall to move, Pumpkin Patch to stay

Walden officials expect to move the town’s seat of government to the nearby town-owned property formerly owned by the late Martha McCoy within the next couple of years, but the town-owned Pumpkin Patch playground will stay put – at least at first.

Mayor David Epperson said though initial plans to move Town Hall to the McCoy property are underway, there are currently no plans to move the Pumpkin Patch, a favorite play destination for families and day care students and teachers alike.

“The Pumpkin Patch is not going away, whether it’s there [behind the current Town Hall] or at the McCoy property,” he said. “The community both on and off the mountain uses it.”

An eventual move to the McCoy property is not out of the question, though.

“I personally think it [the Pumpkin Patch] would be a nice thing to incorporate into the McCoy property because there is so much acreage over there,” said Epperson. “It provides a nice recreational area there but that could be replicated over at the McCoy property at some future date.”
